With this book you are provided with real, tested interfacing circuits that work, plus the necessary software (in BASIC) to connect your Apple computer to the outside world. This combination will enable you to: (1) control electronic and electromechanical devices; (2) monitor external events-temperature, pressure, liquid level, light level, etc; and (3) communicate with other computers, modems, serial printers, and other interface devices. First you are given the building blocks required for a thorough understanding of interfacing. Clearly and concisely the authors take you through the 6502 microprocessor, Apple interfacing, input/output interfacing (input ports and output ports), and flags. Breadboarding with the Apple, including breadboard construction and connections to the Apple, is discussed. The sixteen experiments in Chapter 6 tie everything together. Your comprehension is continually reinforced as you connect the circuits, enter the commands, and see the results. A communications interface (and software) as well as a list of the interface signals available at the seven slots is given in Chapter 7. Any Apple user who desires an extension of his computing capabilities will find this book a valuable addition to his library.
